Today a collector and friend called and mentioned that he and his wife were waiting for me to paint some skies once again. Sounded like a great idea to me and so I spent the day in fluffy clouds and juicy paint.

"Palms At Sunset" ©

Coming up with titles for paintings can be really tough, especially at the end of the day when your spent in every way. Today at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, Jean Stern gave a lecture on the history of the club. He mentioned that artist William Wendt used epic poetry and the Bible to inspire his titles. "Palms At Sunset" will have a better title, I'll just read with titles in mind.

Gallery sitting all day at Descanso Gardens, I watched the clouds quickly passing overhead as if they were on their own speedway. Then as the evening grew close the whites turned to lavender, gray and brilliant edged pinks. Our very own light show, what a wonderful world.

Caught up in the holiday chores, I went outside for break and a quick walk wondering what I would paint today. The sky was inspiring, to the west I could see the "Breaking Clouds".

Wetcanvas.com offers a reference library for artists. An image from that library was the inspiration for this little warm up (before painting on the ducks) today. It's my "rain dance", maybe my focused exercise painting storm clouds will bring rain to our burning lands.

"Temecula Sunrise" ©

Seeing a glimmer of light within the crack of the hotel blinds I stumbled out of the sheets over to the light, as a moth would. Pulling back on the rod that slides the blackout shades aside I was treated to a "Temecula Sunrise".

"Passing Storm" ©

Southern California has been hit by a myriad of weather patterns over the last couple of days. From hail to tornadoes, mud slides to snow we seem to be experiencing a potpourri of Mother Natures best. This little painting is of the storm clouds passing near where the 126 Highway and 5 freeway meet. My valley has really been spared from too much damage, for which we are all thankful. Tomorrow morning I am playing ring leader of a small band of plein air painters, everyone of us hoping for dry skies.

"Clouds" ©

The clouds were racing overhead all day. A quiet symphony of sun, rain, dark heavy clouds, brilliant fluffy clouds, pink cotton ball clouds all playing their parts, topped off by a golden glow for the final movement.

"Dusk" ©

For two days I have been working on this painting. The scene is outside my backdoor, beyond the neighbor that grows palm trees. The entire painting is about the glorious colors that are the grand finale of the day.

I need 5 more large paintings for the June shows and today I decided to paint in the clouds of the "Big Sky". Surely the morning light will show me more to tweak, as usual, but this is where the painting is at 10pm.

"Clouds For Pennie" ©

This painting is a commission that will be heading to it's new home tomorrow. The idea was to paint a large gallery wrapped canvas as if you were looking through a window, seeing clouds and a blue blue sky. Clouds are very enjoyable to sculpt in paint, simply put I had fun.
