"Lingering Warmth" © #HansenDam #wambsgans

In a couple of weeks I am flying to Vermont and driving up to the Adriondacks with my gear to paint the classic scenes of the Hudson River group, from long ago.   In this painting I was thinking about those tonal paintings of water and hardwood trees but truly I don't know what to expect as I have never been to the Adriondack National Park.  Along with painting everyday,  I made more linen covered gator board panels, ordered bug repellant clothing and have started making little piles to be packed.  I really can't wait to jump on the plane!

"Cottonwoods in Shades of Green" ©

Often I see a spot and know it's a painting but the timing is off.  Either I am driving somewhere with a timing issue or working on a show or I am just not up to painting the piece technically.  A while ago another artist Janet Anderson and I spotted this idyllic scene as we were driving from Jackson Hole back to Scott Christensen's studio in Victor, Idaho.  Both of us wanted to stop and paint but time was banging it's drum loudly and we couldn't spend the time.  My delay in trying the painting was technical, I could see the painting in my mind but couldn't make the connection to my hands.  Without the pressure of a show in the wings I decided to give it a go and feel pretty good about the painting.  Since this photo I have changed quite a bit but you can get an idea of the serene scene of the Cottonwoods on a gray day.

"Early Morning on the Rails" ©

Tonight I had the chance to "play" in the paint and just have fun. We are headed on a rail trip, so this was the perfect subject to try to capture.

"Fall Cottonwoods" ©

An artist buddy dropped off thousands of slides that her father had taken over the years, for me to mine for painting ideas. I wish I could have met him, obviously an adventurer and fisherman. One of his trips to the high country in the fall inspired this little painting of "Fall Cottonwoods".

"Saint Loup Reflections", © St Loup, France

Late in the afternoon, wandering the grounds of the Chateau of Saint Loup I could only imagine the lives that passed though over the centuries. A lot to consider while painting the reflections.

The Santa Fe Dam is nestled among monster gravel quarries and has a magnificent view of the San Gabriel Mountains. 3 min. from Art Feldman's canvas shop in Irwindale.
