A friendly lifeguard at Hansen Dam drove a couple of us looking the just the right spot to paint to his favorite view of the lake. The brilliant bank sparkling in the morning sun grabbed my attention and held on tight.
Oil on Canvas, 16" X 20"
Small daily oil paintings, painted in a plein air impressionistic style on stretched canvas or canvas board created and posted regularly. 2012 update: After 6 years, the postings now include larger paintings along with the small works. My goal is to reach 1,000 paintings posted by the end of this year. 2013 update: The original goal was met and exceeded, from now on I will post paintings that are successful or might be of interest.

Hi Laura,
This is so nice and I am glad that you showed the sun on the bank.
This is so pretty and peaceful.

Wow, Laura!!
Did you do this en plein air??? It's great! Wish I could have joined you when your went with your group. Next time you go during the week, let me know.
Love the colors of the trees behind the sunlit bank!!
Hey Marian, no this is not a plein air painting, totally studio work. But without painting the scene plein air I would not have been able to paint this one. You know how much you learn just standing at one spot for a couple of hours. Usually plein air I don't paint over 11" X 14". The next group plein air event is at Lombardy Ranch on October 24th, but I'll be up in Santa Cruz that weekend. They would love to have you join the group at the ranch!
We lived in the San Fernando Valley when I was a kid. This painting reminds me of the spot my brothers and I used to fish back in the late 1960's and very early 1970's when we went up to "Handsome Dam" (hey, I was a LITTLE kid). Fond memories, and very nice painting. You do good work.
