"Eaton Canyon Evening" ©

This weekend I will be exhibiting 22 paintings at the 22nd Annual Craftsman Exposition at the Pasadena Convention Center.  The Craftsman weekend includes tours of local Craftsman homes, lectures on antiques and art collecting, besides the Expo full of venders of all things Craftsman.  If you want to learn more about the weekend please visit the Pasadena Heritage website.

Yesterday I visited the Edgar Payne exhibit at the Pasadena Museum of California Art with a group of artist friends.  Beyond the brilliant compositions I was struck by Payne's use of gray.  Wanting to put some of what I learned onto canvas right away I painted this scene using all shades of gray, as much as possible.  I had a great time, a bonus to a special day, my 26th year of being married to my number one guy, Mike.  Love you!

Victoria Finlay has written more about color in her book, "Color, A natural History of the Palette" then imaginable. One of the first chapters is on the color Ochre, describing the mines in Australia and how Ochre played a major role in the lives of the Aboriginal people. While reading about Ochre, I used a great deal of the pigment in the painting of "Eaton Canyon Sycamore", making the experience all the more pleasurable.

Late in the day, Eaton Canyon is still hot in the shadows, small critters skitter around and the hawks make their last passes. It's a peaceful time to wander the canyon, saying goodbye to the day.
