"Another Sunset" ©

Just to be sure the new panels were as great as I first thought, I pulled out another one and had a go at it today. Yes, they truly are super! *For artists: They are "Primed Art Panel" from Mister Art online. I had previously purchased the Houston Art Panels but they are no longer available from the company to artists directly since Speedball purchased company.

Hi, Laura,

I have been enjoying your blogs! I have a question about the panels from Mister Art online. Have you tried Ray Mar panels and how do they compare with the primed art panels you mentioned? I am using Ray Mar and am satisfied with them but I'm always willing to try something new. Especially if they are just as good for a lower price.

Hi Linda,
Raymar panels are a higher quality panel for sure. Just the other day I received a box of the super smooth Raymar panels to try. In the past I have painted on the primed cotton Raymar panels and found that the drag on my brush and resistance of the surface to the paint was working against me. Part of that could be I don't use medium when painting plein air. I need all the help I can get. Meanwhile if your checking out panels, try out the panel David Leffel promotes on his website (click on his links). I have one of those to try too and it feels perfect. The gessoed panels from Mister Art, are priced perfectly for daily painting and work well. For gallery work you are correct in painting on a higher quality surface. Happy Painting! Laura
