"Cloud Chasing"

Purely for the fun of it, I painted this warm soft sky today.  The location is on the coast in the small magical seaside town of Malibu.  Todays rainy weather had clouds gathering together quickly and separating just as fast, reminding me when painting a moving sky, you just have to pick a pattern in the clouds and stick to it.

There is a moment at sunset, when everything turns brilliant orange and lavender above the park and ride at the Elsmere Canyon entrance.  I have wanted to try to catch that moment in time and finally took a break today from framing and packing for a show tomorrow in Ventura to give it a go.  If you are in the area of Ventura on Saturday I am showing 25 paintings at the Ventura Museums event, "Art Alfresco" from 12noon to 5pm.  Anyone is welcome to come from 12 noon - 2pm there are tickets available that include lunch and museum admission.  From 2pm - 5pm there are $5.00 tickets for admission.  If you come please say HI!

"A Day at the Vineyard" ©

A nice way to end the day, sipping wine, watching the sun sink and the light closing over the vineyard. The show last weekend in Newport Beach went well and I met a gentleman that read my name tag and told me that he has one of my paintings hanging in his entry way.  We figured out that he acquired the painting from Gales Restaurant in Pasadena where I have exhibited art occasionally for the last several years.  What a small world.  I do have good news, this spring I will be one of 3 artists showing long term at Gales.  The food is delicious and the art is always a nice addition to the walls, so if you are in the area stop by for lunch or dinner.

"Cape Sunset" ©

Imagine sitting on a woven blanket, next to the fire dug into the sand, eating a fresh lobster, French cheese, sipping a glass of wine and watching the sunset over the Cape. This painting was the view, after several dark days.

As the sun sets in the Kauai surf the clouds become a delicate color show in the sky.

"Sundown" ©

This little painting is a myriad of ideas, a gallery wants a few small sunsets, an artist buddy and I have been looking a sunset paintings for a paint along and I need an idea for a quick draw in a week. So after a day of hauling gear and paintings for a show tomorrow, I just sat down at the easel and played. A nice way to end the day.
